Rules of the Festival

1. The name of the Festival shall be the Mary Wakefield Westmorland Festival. 2. The Festival shall be organised by a sub-committee of the Westmorland Music Council. The sub-committee shall consist of members of the Westmorland Music Council with power to co-opt up to three-quarters of its members. 3. Those who take part in the Festival shall be choirs and individuals from towns, villages and schools in the County of Westmorland or within a radius of twenty-five miles from Kendal. 4. Every singer in a choir must be a bona fide member of that choir. 5. No performer shall be allowed to rehearse or practise class work during the week of the Festival in a hall in which the class is to take place. 6. In classes where an age limit is stipulated, performers must be within the age limit stated. Age limits stated in the Prospectus signify the school year in which the children are placed. To give an example, school year 6 signifies that the performer has his/her 11th birthday during the period 1st September 2010 to 31st August 2011. Please note that school year 13 is the maximum for age restricted classes and that birth certificates should be produced, if requested. 7. In classes where the test piece is a performer's own choice the performer must provide a copy of the music for the adjudicator's use before the class begins. This can be a photocopy if the piece is part of a volume. Photocopy to be retained by the Festival and destroyed. Own choice items must not exceed 5 minutes' duration unless otherwise specified in individual class qualifications. Note: Performers not in full time education must still be within the appropriate age group. 8. The use of all audio or visual recording equipment at any time during the Festival is strictly forbidden. The Festival may appoint a photographer, designated by a badge, or allow a Press photographer to attend. Photographs taken during the Festival will only be used for publicity purposes connected with the Festival. Parents who object to children being photographed while taking part in the Festival must inform the Chief Steward in writing in advance. Persons in possession of audio or visual recording equipment may be refused admission. 9. No photocopies may be used at the Festival, other than those obtained through a publisher's Uniprint Service, or as provided in Rule 7. 10. Songs from the Shows Classes: to be a concert performance, with no costume, props or dance movements allowed. 11. All Instrumental Groups must be in the Hall before the commencement of the Class. A limited time will be given for setting up Instrumental Groups. ENTRY FORMS The Prospectus, including entry forms (which may be photo-copied), may be obtained from the Entries Secretary, Mrs Lesley Talbot, 10 Sunnyside, Kendal LA9 7DJ, Tel: 01539 729817, from the Tourist Information Centre, Town Hall, Kendal, or the Festival website (www.mwwf.co.uk). Completed forms should be returned to Mrs Talbot by Wednesday 14th January 2011. Each entry must be made on a proper, separate entry form and must be sent with the correct fee. Cheques/postal orders should be made payable to Mary Wakefield Festival. Details of performers' music in own choice classes must be given on the entry form for inclusion in the Adjudicated Classes Programme. Confirmation of entry will be sent by email where possible. Please ensure that you add your email address to both sections of the form. NO LATE ENTRIES ACCEPTED ENTRY FEES Solo Classes........£4.50 Groups of 2 or more........£7 Choral Celebration Evening……….£25 per choir NOTES 1. Performers may provide their own accompanist, but, if required, an official accompanist will be available. Performers requiring the services of the official accompanist will be required to send a copy of their music with their entry. 2. All trophies are held for two years. 3. Adjudicators' marking sheets may be collected after each class. 4. The rules relating to individual classes are stated under the class headings. DATA PROTECTION: Please note that data held on all entry forms is for the sole purpose of running the Festival and will be held for no other purpose. Entrants signing these forms agree not only to this, but to all the rules and regulations of the Festival.
