CLASS 4       PIANO DUET FOR FOUR HANDS

Qualification:  Open to performers in Years 10 to 13..

CLASS 5       PIANO DUET FOR FOUR HANDS

Qualification:  Open to performers in Years 9 and under.

CLASS 6       VIOLIN, VIOLA, CELLO OR  DOUBLE BASS SOLO 
Qualification:  Open to performers in Years 7 and 8.

CLASS 7       VIOLIN, VIOLA, CELLO OR  DOUBLE BASS SOLO 
Qualification:  Open to performers in Years 9 and 10..

CLASS 8       VIOLIN, VIOLA, CELLO OR  DOUBLE BASS SOLO 
Qualification:  Open to performers in Years 11 to 13..
Test piece:  Own choice, Grade 7 standard or above.   Time of performance must not exceed 8 minutes.   See Rule 7.

CLASS 9      INSTRUMENTAL DUET  (Two performers only, any combination of instruments.)
Qualification:  Open to performers in Year 8 and under.

CLASS 10     INSTRUMENTAL DUET  (Two performers only, any combination of instruments.)
Qualification:  Open to performers in Years 9 to 13.

CLASS 11   INSTRUMENTAL TRIO (Any combination of instruments, which may include a piano.)
Qualification:  Open to performers in Year 13 and under.

CLASS 13   CHAMBER MUSIC GROUP  (Any combination of four to eight instruments, one instrument per part.   May include a piano.   No conductor.   Choice of music taken into consideration.)
Qualification:  Open to performers in Years 9 to 13.

CLASS 14   RECORDER ENSEMBLE

Qualification:  Open to not less than 6 performers, in Year 13 and under.

CLASS 15   WOODWIND INSTRUMENT SOLO (Recorder, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Bassoon)  
Qualification:  Open to performers in Year 8 and under.

CLASS 16   WOODWIND INSTRUMENT SOLO  (Recorder, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Bassoon)  
Qualification:  Open to performers in Years 9 and 10.

CLASS 17   WOODWIND INSTRUMENT SOLO (Recorder, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Saxophone, Bassoon)  
Qualification:  Open to performers in Years 11 to 13.
Test piece:  Own choice, Grade 6 standard or above.   Time of performance must not exceed 8 minutes.   See Rule 7.

CLASS 18   BRASS INSTRUMENT SOLO  (Cornet, Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Tenor Horn, Tuba.)
Qualification:  Open to performers in Year 8 and under.

CLASS 19   BRASS INSTRUMENT SOLO  (Cornet, Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Tenor Horn, Tuba, Euphonium.)
Qualification:  Open to performers in Years 9 and 10.

CLASS 20   BRASS INSTRUMENT SOLO  (Cornet, Trumpet, Trombone, French Horn, Tenor Horn, Tuba, Euphonium.)
Qualification:  Open to performers in Years 11 to 13.

CLASS 21   FAMILY MUSIC MAKING (Vocal and/or instrumental)
Qualification:  A family group of three or more.

CLASS 22   GROUP OF SINGERS (with or without accompaniment.  Minimum of 5 voices)
Qualification:  Open to choirs from churches, chapels, guilds, W.I.s and similar organisations.

CLASS 23   GROUP OF SINGERS (with or without accompaniment.  Minimum of 5 voices.)
Qualification:  Youth choir (not school based).

CLASS 24    SPECIALIST MADRIGAL

Qualification:  Open to choirs with 10-15 voices.

CLASS 31   VOCAL DUET  (Accompaniment optional)
Qualification:  Open to performers 18 years and over.   Any combination of voices.   Performers may sing twice but with different partners.

CLASS 32   LADIES VOCAL TRIO   (Accompaniment optional)
Qualification:  Open.

CLASS 33   MIXED VOICE QUARTET  (Accompaniment optional)
Qualification:  Open.

CLASS 34   MALE VOICE QUARTET   (Unaccompanied)
Qualification:  Open.

TUESDAY 17th MARCH 2009

VENUE:  United Reformed Church, Kendal – Morning

CLASS 25   VOCAL SOLO

Qualification:  Open to sopranos/altos in Years 11 to 13.
Test piece:  Own choice.   One song by either Purcell, Arne, Boyce or any twentieth-century British composer.   See Rule 7.

CLASS 26   VOCAL SOLO

Qualification:  Open to tenors, baritones or basses in Year 13 and under..
Test piece:  Own choice.   One song by either Purcell, Arne, Boyce or any twentieth-century British composer.   See Rule 7.

CLASS 27   VOCAL DUET (Any combination of voices.   Performers may sing twice in this class, but with different partners.)
Qualification:  Open to performers in Years 10 to 13.

CLASS 28   SONGS FROM THE SHOWS (Any voice)
Qualification:  Open to performers in Years 12 and 13.

CLASS 29   SONGS FROM THE SHOWS (Any voice)

Qualification:  Open to performers in Years 10 and 11.

All performances using music from current productions are subject to Copyright Law.   Songs from shows in current production may be sung as a concert item – i.e. with no costume or movement.   Where movement or costume is included in a performance Copyright Permission is required.
The Festival accepts these entries on the basis that the appropriate Copyright Permission has been sought.

CLASS 30      VOCAL RECITAL (Any voice)
Qualification:  Open to performers in Years 11 to 13.
Test piece:  Three songs:   a)  pre 19th century song or aria
b) German lied or French chanson (original language)

1. Any 20th century British art song (not from an opera or show)

CHORAL CELEBRATION EVENING (Non competitive.  The official accompanist will not be available.)
Open to local S A T B choirs.   See Rule 3.
An own choice programme not exceeding 20 minutes, to include spoken introductions and pauses between items at the conductor's discretion.   Choirs should consider a variety of style in the content of their programme as well as technical and musical challenge.   Choirs will receive a private written assessment and spoken comments.
